The big 3-0 has come and gone, but this year I decided to start a new tradition. After spending a wonderful day with my favorite people, I decided to sit down alone and write down the first 30 thoughts that came to me. It’s not the most profound list of knowledge, but it was definitely insightful to my current feelings and mood. It’s real, it’s silly, it’s honest and it’s me. I hope it feels relevant to many of you, no matter where you are in your journey.
So here it is… 30 Thoughts on 30 YEARS
- You mean I’m an adult now? Why do I still feel like a child…
- It’s ok to not know the answer, just vow to find it
- Confidence is always the best makeup
- Ice cream fixes everything
- Be who you want, but do it well
- Wait, I’m now the expert on things?!
- Being humble is the best way to grow
- Sometimes your husband really is right
- Admitting mistakes is the hardest, but most sincere thing you can do
- You really should wear that sunblock
- Washing and moisturizing your face is definitely worth the extra 5-minutes
- Step outside of your comfort zone
- Learn something new everyday
- Write letters to people you care about
- Thank you notes really are important
- Spend the extra hour at grandma’s house
- Hangout with your parents, they’re pretty cool and knowledgeable
- Find something you love and hold onto it
- Get a dog or some kind of furry companion, they brighten up even the worst day
- Read the book that’s been sitting on your shelf
- Embrace change
- Let go of expectations
- Find peace with just being
- Sometimes you really need the big cry
- Give thought to your future self, but accept where you are
- Find the joy in exercising, the physical and mental benefits are boundless
- Ask your family questions especially those grandparents, they have beautiful stories just waiting to be told
- Be kind
- Be honest
- Be open…to people, to thoughts and to beliefs that don’t mirror your own
I’m sure I could’ve come up with an entirely different list, but these were the first things that came to mind! Instead of trying to create the perfect list of 30 thoughts, I simply listened to my body and my mind and wrote down the first 30 thoughts that came to me. They felt so right, and that’s beautiful to me.
I hope you’ll join me in writing your own list of thoughts or reflections. I’d love to read your responses and learn from your knowledge.
Who knows, I might have to make this an annual list every year for my birthday!
Simply yours,
Martina

I don’t know if this made me tear up a little because a lot of these things I see in my girls and want them to see them in themselves, because I want my Maliyah to stay with me forever and not be a year away from leaving me for college or if because I know that all of the things on your list are so. Very. True! Whatever the reason, thanks for sharing. 💜

Awe, thanks Tamie! It’s so hard to let your littles fly, but you’ve raised them well. They will do amazing things on their journeys, and I’m positive they will always appreciate where they came from!

Love this! Thank you for sharing! I personally still struggle with so many of these things on a day to day basis. 30 really is a reflective year in my life. Glad to see someone who shares these insights.

Thank you so much Stacy! I continue to struggle with so many of these as well. Writing them down does seem to be a good reminder for me though.
