The big 3-0 has come and gone, but this year I decided to start a new tradition. After spending a wonderful day with my favorite people, I decided to sit down alone and write down the first 30 thoughts that came to me. It’s not the most profound list of knowledge, but it was definitely insightful to my current feelings and mood. It’s real, it’s silly,  it’s honest and it’s me. I hope it feels relevant to many of you, no matter where you are in your journey.

So here it is… 30 Thoughts on 30 YEARS

  1. You mean I’m an adult now? Why do I still feel like a child…
  2. It’s ok to not know the answer, just vow to find it
  3. Confidence is always the best makeup
  4. Ice cream fixes everything
  5. Be who you want, but do it well
  6. Wait, I’m now the expert on things?!
  7. Being humble is the best way to grow
  8. Sometimes your husband really is right
  9. Admitting mistakes is the hardest, but most sincere thing you can do
  10. You really should wear that sunblock
  11. Washing and moisturizing your face is definitely worth the extra 5-minutes
  12. Step outside of your comfort zone
  13. Learn something new everyday
  14. Write letters to people you care about
  15. Thank you notes really are important
  16. Spend the extra hour at grandma’s house
  17. Hangout with your parents, they’re pretty cool and knowledgeable
  18. Find something you love and hold onto it
  19. Get a dog or some kind of furry companion, they brighten up even the worst day
  20. Read the book that’s been sitting on your shelf
  21. Embrace change
  22. Let go of expectations
  23. Find peace with just being
  24. Sometimes you really need the big cry
  25. Give thought to your future self, but accept where you are
  26. Find the joy in exercising, the physical and mental benefits are boundless
  27. Ask your family questions especially those grandparents, they have beautiful stories just waiting to be told
  28. Be kind
  29. Be honest
  30. Be open…to people, to thoughts and to beliefs that don’t mirror your own

I’m sure I could’ve come up with an entirely different list, but these were the first things that came to mind! Instead of trying to create the perfect list of 30 thoughts, I simply listened to my body and my mind and wrote down the first 30 thoughts that came to me. They felt so right, and that’s beautiful to me.

I hope you’ll join me in writing your own list of thoughts or reflections. I’d love to read your responses and learn from your knowledge.

Who knows, I might have to make this an annual list every year for my birthday!

Simply yours,

Martina
